This tea is a remarkable home-made recipe for helping with thyroid conditions, insomnia, agitation and immuno-compromise.
Ingredients for Mullein Elderberry Tea
2 cups of water 1 tablespoon dried elderberries
1 tablespoon dried mullein herb
Raw honey (Manuka, or any type you like)
Directions
Add the elderberries and bring water to a boil. Simmer this for a total of 15 minutes gently, but at the 10 minute mark, I’d add the mullein and continue to simmer for 5 more minutes (total of 15). At the 15 minute mark, turn off the water and let steep with the cover on for an additional 5 minutes or so.
The reason behind this is because you need to simmer the elderberries a little bit longer than you do the mullein flowers. When making tea, this is a good rule of thumb — simmering berries and grasses, and roots longer than you do flowers.
So timing is everything if you want to extract all the goodness from both of these constituents 🌿
When complete, the tea will be a little bit darker than my graphic above because the picture only shows mullein. When elderberry is added the tea takes on more of a pinkish red color (from the berry extraction).
Strain, sweeten and enjoy your medicinal tea. May be sipped immediately, or stored in a mason jar for a few days. Feel free to adjust ingredients as desired, even adding blueberries to the tea at the 10 minute mark (with the mullein).
This is a delicious way to fend off infections, and fight inflammation and pain. Alternatively, if you want to drink this at night, the mullein is sedating 😴 and you could add dried chamomile flowers while steeping it the last 5 minutes. And on that note regarding a sleepy time tea, this one is REALLY effective, you will love my recipe for Lavender Rose Sleep Tea.
NOTE: If you’d like to grow your own elderberry trees, you can. Here’s a LINK to learn how to grow and care for elderberry bushes/trees.
